The brief
Burn the Boats already had a distinctive visual style in mind for the new website.
The design needed to feel bold, cinematic and immersive, reflecting the scale and quality of the company’s film production work. It also needed to support large amounts of photography, video and project content without becoming difficult to navigate.
Rather than simply building a collection of fixed pages, the client wanted a flexible website they could continue developing themselves.
Our job was to turn the original creative direction into a responsive, manageable website while staying faithful to the client’s vision.
Bringing the design to life
We translated the supplied designs and creative ideas into a complete Webflow website.
This involved carefully building each section, layout and interaction so the finished site retained the visual impact of the original concept while working smoothly across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
Large-format imagery, cinematic video, strong typography and layered page sections were combined to create an experience that feels closer to a film trailer than a conventional production company website.
The result is a website that immediately communicates the character of the Burn the Boats brand and gives its work the space it deserves.
Building a reusable design library
A major part of the project was creating a library of reusable design elements inside Webflow.
Instead of relying on a single fixed page template, we developed a collection of interchangeable sections that could be used across the website.
- Cinematic hero sections
- Video and image banners
- Full-width content panels
- Image galleries
- Project introductions
- Text and media layouts
- Call-to-action sections
- Quote and statement panels
- Logo and client sections
- Case-study content blocks
- Behind-the-scenes galleries
- Contact and booking sections
The client can now create a new page and choose the sections that best suit the content, rather than having to follow the same structure every time.
Giving the client creative control
The reusable design system gives the Burn the Boats team much more control over the website.
New project pages, productions, case studies and campaign content can be assembled using existing components. Sections can be added, removed or rearranged depending on the story being told.
This means the website can continue to change alongside the company without every new page requiring a completely new design and development process.
It also helps maintain visual consistency. Although each page can have its own structure, it still feels like part of the same Burn the Boats brand.
Creating flexible project pages
Film projects rarely fit neatly into a standard content template.
Some projects may require extensive behind-the-scenes photography, while others may focus on a hero film, production story, featured team members or campaign results.
We created flexible page-building options that allow the client to present each production differently. This is particularly useful for the website’s case studies, documentary content and film-shoot pages.
The team can select the elements needed for each project and build a page around the available content rather than forcing every production into an identical layout.
Webflow CMS development
Webflow’s content management system was used to make important areas of the website easier to maintain.
Structured content can be added and updated without manually rebuilding every page. This gives the client a simpler way to publish new projects while keeping repeated information, layouts and design details consistent.
The CMS structure also provides a scalable foundation for the website as Burn the Boats produces more films, campaigns and original content.
Responsive development
The highly visual nature of the design created several technical challenges.
Video, photography, oversized typography and layered content all needed to remain effective across very different screen sizes. We carefully adapted the layouts for tablets and mobile devices, ensuring that the cinematic feel was retained without affecting readability or usability.
Each reusable section was built responsively so the client could confidently use it on future pages without needing to redesign it for every device.
The result
The finished website turns the client’s original creative direction into a bold and immersive digital experience.
Burn the Boats now has a site that reflects the cinematic quality of its work while providing the flexibility needed to publish new productions, campaigns and case studies.
Most importantly, the website is not limited to the pages included at launch. The reusable design library and CMS give the client the tools to create new pages, choose the elements they need and continue developing the website without compromising its visual identity.
